Jim Ka traditional tofu shop is located in the Zhong zheng Road. This shop has been inherited for three generations, which is nearly a hundred years. Not only tofu, but also soy milk, fermented bean curd are handmade and genuine. At 3 o'clock in the morning, James Mori system begins to grind beans, tofu, and soy milk. They will sell hot tofu in the market when it's still early in the morning.  In addition, they produce nearly one hundred plates of tofu every day. The tofu they produced rich in soybean's aroma. Therefore, the soft tofu seizes the faithful customers' heart. All the tofu will be sold out before 11 am. Jim Ka tofu shop focus on not only the quality, the cheap price is also their feature. A large scoop of sugarfree soy milk only sold for $ 20 (A scoop can roughly divide into five or six cups). You can adjust the amount of sugar you like after buying the soy milk home.

Yi shun ice shop is located in Success Street. It was founded in the end of Japanese Occupation Period. The host of the first generation is Hai bin Chen. He set up a grocery store at this location and sold the brown sugar. Due to lack of storage equipment, the brown sugar is easy to be damp. The owner came out with an idea,

which is freeze the damp brown sugar and sell it. And this product became very popular among people. Therefore, the Chen family began to do the ice-making business. The present host, Zhi hong Chen, is the host of the third generation.

In 70 years, the price rose from a penny to ten dollars for one. However, the host insisted on hand-making the ice with wonderful ingredients. That’s why the loyal customers come to buy their product continuously. Someday, if you pass Yi shun ice shop, try a pineapple-flavored popsicle or a round kumquat-flavored popsicle! By the way, Yi shun ice shop also sells tasty kumquat sauce in winter.

Running a tea shop is shameful in most people's thought. However, Zhong Mei Tea Shop, which located at No.146,Cheng Gong Street in Xinpu Town, has been running for over 100 years. It’s also the oldest tea shop which got legal license. The host Yue Feng Xu said her mother inherited this tea shop from her great-grand mother. The owner of the tea shop cannot be tracked anymore. Her mother was born in 1907 and Zhong Mei Tea Shop has been running for couple of years. Hence, we can infer that

Yuefeng Xu said the 1950s is period of the citrus industry. Once, there were over 100 people crowded into Zhong Mei Tea Shop. People come and go at that time. 18 waitress in the shop still couldn’t handle such big amount of people. This was the most prosperous period of Zhong Mei Tea Shop. After this decade, the government taxed the tea shop business heavily. Besides, the citrus industry declined. The shoppy tea shops on Xinpu Street closed one by one. Although the tea shop is no longer that thriving as before, some faithful customers will come back to Zhong Mei Tea Shop from time to time. Yuefeng Xu said some customers came from Taichung or Kaohsiung in order to find their memory. Some of them even bring their children and grandchildren to visit this place.      

Nine years ago, Yue feng Xu’s mother, Xu Xu Tong Mei, died at the venerable age of 85. She left the words ”You must keep running the tea shop ” to Yue feng Xu.

Since she is the only child in this family, she had no choice but take this responsibility.

Wunchang Shrine is located at Cheng Gong Street in Xinpu Town. The founder, Xiao Guang Chen, built it in 1843. It was the first built temple in the three Wunchang temples in Hsinchu, including Shrine and Chiung Lin Wunchang temples. The rebuilt Wunchang Shrine is very solemn, simple and unsophisticated. It’s a study, a temple, and also the representative building of the culture of Xinpu.

In Xinpu, such a traditional Hakka town, stands a distinctive Western style architecture. The catholic cathedral located at Zhongzheng Rd. and it was built by Priest Sarando in 1955. This catholic cathedral benefits a lot for Xinpu Town. It provided free medical treatment. Besides, he also held a kindergarten and St. Aloysius Technical School to educate the residents. In the meantime, raise the popularity of Xinpu Town.

Xinpu catholic cathedral is a Spanish architecture. It lies in the intersection of Minsheng St. and Zhongzheng Rd. The pink wall makes the cathedral look amiable. It’s quite harmonious in these traditional and modern building. Seeing from out the wall to inside, it creates an illusion of being aboard.

Liu’s ancestral shrine, or Liu Jia Temple , located in the intersection of Heping St. and

Guang Han Rd. It was built in 1866. This gorgeous san-ho-yuan enshrines Liu’s the first ancestor Liu Bang , Emperor Gaozo of Han Dynasty, his father, Liu Rong , and forebears. This san-ho-yuan is the Class Three National Historical Site.

There are two main features of Liu’s ancestral shrine. One is many swallow-tailed demonstrations on the roof. A Swallow-tailed ridge of roof is common in traditional architecture. To show the identity of Liu family, they have more swallow-tailed demonstrations on the roof, which makes the shrine more magnificent. Besides, there are also many other shrines follow this pattern in Xinpu Town. Many horizontal inscribed boards is the other feature of Liu’s shrine. That’s because the ancestors gained many awards in the history.

Xinpu Pan’s house is a square architecture. The house was surrounded by layers of walls, which makes the whole building look like a crab. Moreover, the roof is painted blue, which represent the endless energy of crab’s nest. The body of the wall is made of cobbles. The ways they build the outer-wall are quite different, which give lives to the wall. In other hand, the inner-wall was built by the white stones from Quan State. This is one of the features of this historical site. The appropriate size of Pan’s House shows its friendliness. See it from whole view, the strong structure and the clear arrangement of space make this house outstanding from others.

Xinpu traditional market is on Zhongzheng Rd. It’s epitome of the traditional agriculture society so far. Early in the morning, women bring surplus vegetable or homemade pickle to the market and sale them by the road, just like the market in ancient times. When it’s near noon, the market is going to close. They will eat a boat of rice noodle and go back home delightedly. Although they work hard and only earn hundreds, they’re contented. Because they sell out the vegetable, eat the rice noodles, and also meet their friends in the market.

The traditional market is a place where the special products of Xinpu gather.For example, you can find Hakka cake, Hakka sausage, Hakka grains and other Hakka delicacies. All the daily use of traditional agriculture life can be found in the market. It leads you to endless memory when you saw these things.  However, the living path of country is different from the city. You better go to the market earlier, because it will be close around 11 o’clock.

Kuang He Temple is located in Zhongzheng Rd. It enshrines the Lords of Three Mountains, or Wang Ye temple. That’s because Hakka call the Lords of Three Mountains as Wang Ye. Kuang He Temple was built at the center of Xinpu Town by Rong Guang Pan in 1860. In 1895, as the Japanese attack Taiwan, this temple was burn. Not until 1902 when this temple was rebuilt. Chi Guang Tsai extent this temple in 1919 and he spent 10 years to build the temple as what we see now. In 1986, the temple was repaired again. There was an interesting feature of this Kaun He Temple, which is the symmetry of it. The wood craft of the left and right is made by different expert. Therefore, you can find out that the decoration of these two sides is distinct! Besides, Kuang He Temple is the biggest temple in Xinpu. Many important activities were held at the square in front of the temple. It’s quite significant for the Xinpu residents.

Xinpu folklore craft shop set in 1899. It has passed down for five generation in hundreds of years. The company established in 2000 and run by Liu Xing Xing and his son nowadays. What they mainly do is papier-mache, such as art making lanterns, decorative lanterns, and creative masks. You can see their works all over Taiwan. Recently, they also devoted in combing culture with art designed. Outdoor decoration art, stage design, plan of outdoor landscape art are also what they do. Besides, they operated folk art design, mask for festival, and development of craft art. You will be more surprised by the marvelous traditional papier-mache art.

Pan’s western-style house was built in 1935, more than 70 years in history. However, this house was rebuilt from an old house. Therefore, some part of the building stood over a hundred year. The house was designed by Jin-He Pan. He combined Europe, Japanese, Taiwanese style in this house. For example, Roman pillar, Japanese roof, paper door and tatami are included. Besides, more than two doors between rooms reflect the living style of Taiwanese. Owning to the family property, they also built granary and dyer, which also in Taiwanese style.
